Lowrider bike restore project

Here is my Lowrider bike restore project video! When you have two young kids, you have to find time where you can BUT, its done!

This Lowrider bike was a restore project long in the making. I had originally made the bike over 25 years ago. after a garage fire, I knew it was time for me to bring it back to life! I wish I could have kept most of the parts but there was just too much damage. Some of the replacement parts I’ll put below. The bike rides just fine but, I’m going to keep it more for show!

Mariachis touch the soul: Beautiful tribute to Kobe and family members lost

Mariachis touch the soul: Beautiful tribute to Kobe and family members lost

By Javier Urias

MARIACHIS TOUCH
THE SOUL

This was a fantastic tribute to a man that meant so much to a generation and It tells me a lot about what he meant to the people of L.A.

“You are the sadness in my eyes, that weep in silence for your love, I look at myself in the mirror and see my face, the time I’ve suffered because of your goodbye, How I wish that you had lived, that your little eyes had never closed, and to be looking at them, Love eternal and unforgettable, sooner or later I will be with you to continue loving each other.”

So growing up in a Hispanic family, every holiday I’ve had a very unique opportunity to hear mariachi music live. In my family on my mother’s side, my grandfather was awesome mariachi. I once remember as a kid seeing him on TV. Back in the 80s if you were on TV, in my opinion at least, you were like a rockstar. I used to hear stories about how he would get invited play with symphonies. I remember my friends coming over and I would brag to them about how great my grandfather was and if he was in town I would challenge them to pick any song let him listen to it and I bet them he could play it back on his guitar. My grandfather was amazing. My aunts and uncles also have this talent and for two of them they have continued the tradition.

Every time I hear mariachi music, If I see Mariachis out in public, I feel a sense of family, a connection to the music that I can’t explain. As a second generation American, my family’s Hispanic culture is something that I’m very proud of. I am kind of ashamed to admit it, I am not fluent in Spanish, however every time I hear Mariachis sing, it touches the soul. I remember my grandfather, I remember my aunts and uncles, to hear their beautiful voices singing is so moving. It’s a part of my heritage that I’m extremely proud of.

The Birth Of Urias MediaBack in 2008, I was an MP (Military Police) with the 4003rd Garrison Support unit out of Ft. Hood (Killeen Texas for those of you not familiar). I was trying to finish up my commitment to “Uncle Sam” and be on my way when the Unit Commander made a stunning announcement. My unit was going away. Due to cut backs or something, the unit was scheduled to be disband, I never did find out why. I was just told I had to find another unit and possibly another MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) in the Army. Which landed me in the 344th Psychological Operations Company out of Camp Mabry, in my home city, Austin Texas! I thought to myself this is going to be a great way to finish up my contract, there was just one problem… They didn’t have any MP spots in that unit. After doing my homework I found out what kind of units they had in the company and I also learned what kind of work a PSYOPS  (Psychological Operations) unit does in the military. To find out more and learn my new MOS, meant I had to go to Ft Mead, Maryland for a couple of months. That’s where I become and still to this day practice being a Multimedia Illustrator. What is a Multimedia illustrator?Multimedia illustrators are responsible for producing visual displays and documents. We were basically the marketing department for the Military. We created graphic artwork that’s used in Army publications, signs, charts, posters, television and motion picture productions, created illustrations, layouts, map overlays, posters, graphs, and charts. When needed we would also produce computer-generated graphics, Draw cartoons for filmstrips and animation for films. Other work included Work with television and film producers. To this day I have never stopped using these skills even though I have been out of the Army for some time. Working in a Non-profitWhen my time was up with the Army, I continued to use my skills in the nonprofit world in the YMCA. Working in a Non-profit you come to realize that budgets are small and workers wear many hats. Often times when I was at bigger YMCA’s you had to order your marketing material from the marketing department and wait.I didn’t like to wait, especially when I knew I could help, so I learned the format and sent projects in for approval instead of asking them to create for me. This was a much faster way to get things done. I’m sure they appreciated the fact that I was trying to help ease their work load too. When I was working at smaller YMCA’s, there was usually no marketing department at all. So, I would take on that role and run with it. I loved doing this for my Y’s, but after a while I thought, why not do it for me?… Why not do it for others who need help?Welcome to Urias Media, my name is Javier Urias, and I’ll be taking care of you, what can I get started for you?
